The size (or
width as some people say) of a primitive data type such as int or double is
entirely machine and compiler dependent. The Microsoft compiler makes long
ints and regular ints the same size whereas the GNU g++ compiler makes long
ints larger than regular ints.
There are ways
to determine the size of a data type that we will see later in the semester.
